The Samsung UN46B7000 LED TV is the second largest of the UNB7000 Series of Samsung LED TVs, with a screen size of 46", measured diagonally, and overall dimensions of 44.4" x 27.8" x 1.2" without its stand. The fact that the UN46B7000, like other Samsung LED LCD TVs, employs LED, or "Light Emitting Diode", technology rather than CCFL, or "Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lighting", for back lighting means that it not only consumes up to 40% less power than conventional LCD models - with power use of just 0.12W/in2 ("Watts per square inch") in default mode - but runs cooler, weighs less (39lbs without its stand) and offers a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1. Other advantages of this form of back lighting include an absence of mercury, lead, or any other environmental pollutants, and consistent lighting characteristics over a long period of time.
In common with other models in the range, this Samsung LED TV features a ToC, or "Touch of Color", bezel, graduating from glossy piano black, through red, to transparent at the outside edges - so the TV looks equally stylish whether mounted on a wall, with its optional wall mount, or on its transparent pedestal stand, which can be swiveled from side to side.
In terms of picture quality and performance, the Samsung UN46B7000 1080p television features Ultra Clear PanelT technology, with a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, Wide Color Enhancer, and Auto Motion PlusT technology, for the crispest, sharpest pictures imaginable. The Samsung UN46B7000 LED TV also performs well in terms of color accuracy, with excellent primary colors. Auto Motion Plus, combined with a refresh rate of 120Hz - twice as fast as the 60Hz refresh rate found in many competing models - means that blurring and 'judder' are a thing of the past, even during the fastest moving sports and action sequences. Furthermore, there is also a special "Game Mode" for video gamers, which allows video, and audio, quality to be adjusted to suit the needs of specific gaming systems - Playstation III, Xbox 360, Wii, etc.. This is easily accessed through the intuitive remote control supplied.
Like other Samsung LED televisions in this range - and, indeed, in the UNB6000 and UNB8000 Series - the Samsung UN46B7000 LED TV has four HDMI ("High Definition Multimedia Interface") inputs, two USB 2.0 ports, D-sub, RF and component video connections, plus an optical digital audio interface and an Ethernet LAN connector. The latter can be used, in conjunction with a broadband Internet connection to deliver Samsung's Internet@TV online content service - a.k.a. Yahoo! Widgets - which allows Web pages, such as Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, etc., to be accessed and viewed, unobtrusively, on the TV screen. Internet content modules, known as "snippets" are collated in a bar along the bottom of the TV screen, and each can be activated to reveal its content. An Internet connection can also be used to download firmware upgrades directly to the TV, itself, rather than needing to access the Samsung website, and there is also built-in content, such as games, recipes and more, available at the touch of a button.
