The Samsung UN55B8000 LED TV is the flagship of the 8000 series of Samsung LED TVs, featuring the largest screen size in the range, at 55", measured diagonally. That said, it is still astonishingly slim, measuring just 1.2" thick at its thickest part, so it can be mounted on its own stand, or hung on the wall like a picture frame. Indeed, a hint of gray is blended into its proprietary TOC™, or "Touch of Color", bezel, to create a stunning look when the TV is hung on the wall, and soft, square corners add to its aesthetic appeal.

In common with other Samsung LED TVs, the UN55B8000 employs an edge-lit LED ("Light Emitting Diode") lighting system, which not only allows its design to be very thin, but also means that it consumes up to 40% less power than a conventional LCD ("Liquid Crystal Display") TV. Compared with the CCFL, or "Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lighting", often used for backlighting in conventional LCD screens, LED offers significantly improved contrast ratios - up to 5,000,000:1, according to the manufacturer - so that blacks appear bold, and endlessly deep, and whites brilliant, crisp and bright.
